Local Newspaper Coverage

PROJECT: L1FE was covered by local newspapers, along with a casting call – which caused a little drama. More about that in a bit, but here’s the news coverage:

The aftermath of news coverage.

As it turns out, if you’re looking to shoot a film at your school, you (a) may not want to call it a ‘mob scene’ and (b) may want to let the school know before placing it in the local newspaper.

I remember receiving a phone call from my mom saying the principal of Center Grove High School called her and left a message on the answering machine stating there will NOT be permission granted for any mob scene shot at the school. Unfortunately, the voice message was erased, so I never got to listen to it or record it for the archives. From what was conveyed to me, this instruction was given to him by the superintendent of the school district.

I should also note, it was his first or second year of being the principal, so I’m sure this was an awesome first impression. (If he’s reading this, I’d like the say: sorry for giving you grief).

It was never brought up to me at school by anyone, but I did issue a retraction in the newspaper faulting a ‘scheduling problem’.

In order to shoot the race scene and final scene you see in the film, I instead recruited my fellow peers at Center Grove High School, along with recruiting the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams. These slips of papers were passed out at school. (Note the word ‘mob’ is never mentioned.)
